AODocs and Microsoft Partner for AI-powered Document Management Natively within Microsoft 365
CEO & Founder, AODocs · Apr 20, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
New native SharePoint Embedded support allows organizations to manage documents with AODocs while storing files directly within Microsoft 365’s security and governance boundaries.
ATLANTA, April 21, 2026. AODocs, an AI-enabled enterprise document management platform, announced a collaboration with Microsoft providing native support for SharePoint Embedded. The announced architecture manages documents through AODocs while storing files within the customer's Microsoft 365 tenant. Deployment requires the applicable application and tenant configuration.
The announcement introduces a new architecture for enterprise document management: organizations gain the governance, lifecycle control, and automation capabilities of AODocs while keeping their files inside the Microsoft 365 security and governance boundaries and storage space.
With the announced integration, documents managed by AODocs are stored in dedicated SharePoint Embedded containers within the customer's Microsoft 365 tenant rather than in external repositories. Microsoft 365 capabilities can apply to this content according to the application configuration, permissions, licensing, and tenant policies. Copilot discovery requires the container type's content-discoverability setting; storage in the tenant alone does not enable every service. The launch statements below describe the intended integration, not a guarantee for every deployment.
This integration marks a major step forward for organizations that rely on Microsoft 365, said Stéphan Donzé, CEO and Founder of AODocs. Companies no longer have to choose between enterprise-grade document management and the benefits of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. With SharePoint Embedded, AODocs can manage documents with the automation and control businesses require while keeping those files securely inside their Microsoft 365 tenant, unlocking Microsoft 365 Copilot, Purview, and other capabilities in a single solution, without compromise.
According to Ian Story, Principal Architect, Microsoft SharePoint:
AODocs brings significant value to the Microsoft ecosystem through scaled document management and control. This offering is built on SharePoint Embedded, combines Microsoft 365, Purview, and Microsoft 365 Copilot platforms with AODocs’ enterprise-centric AI-powered content processes.
AODocs Benefits for Microsoft 365 Customers
AODocs works with enterprise customers including Veolia Water Technologies and Whirlpool on business documents and processes. The announced SharePoint Embedded integration extends document storage into Microsoft 365, delivering several key benefits for enterprise customers:
- Enterprise document governance with native Microsoft 365 storage: Files are managed through AODocs governance, automation, and lifecycle controls while remaining stored inside the organization's Microsoft 365 tenant. This supports tenant-based storage and policy administration, subject to configuration and applicable requirements.
- Copilot-ready enterprise content: Microsoft 365 Copilot discovery depends on the SharePoint Embedded container type's content-discoverability setting and the relevant user access and licensing. Keeping files in the tenant does not remove configuration requirements.
- Tenant policy controls with Purview and DLP: SharePoint Embedded content is subject to the customer's tenant settings. Administrators must confirm the applicable Purview, DLP, retention, and sensitivity controls, including policy scope and licensing; the storage location alone does not establish compliance.
- Fast deployment through a modern SaaS architecture: AODocs is delivered as SaaS. A migration from existing SharePoint environments to SharePoint Embedded still requires planning, supported mappings, permissions review, and validation of the resulting document workflows.

Frequently asked questions
Where does the announced SharePoint Embedded integration store files?
The April 2026 AODocs announcement describes files stored in dedicated SharePoint Embedded containers inside the customer’s Microsoft 365 tenant. Microsoft describes SharePoint Embedded as API-only storage with an application providing the user experience. This architecture differs from a regular SharePoint site or document library.
Does storing files in SharePoint Embedded automatically make them available to Copilot?
No. Microsoft’s SharePoint Embedded documentation describes making content discoverable to Microsoft 365 Copilot through the container type’s content-discoverability setting. Storing a file in the tenant alone does not establish that Copilot can use it. Confirm the application configuration, user access, and applicable Microsoft requirements before relying on that behavior.
