The April 2026 AODocs announcement describes files stored in dedicated SharePoint Embedded containers inside the customer’s Microsoft 365 tenant. Microsoft describes SharePoint Embedded as API-only storage with an application providing the user experience. This architecture differs from a regular SharePoint site or document library.
SharePoint and Google Drive stores and shares files; a document management system governs them.
