VP of Engineering

Location: Europe (Offices in Paris or Milan, or remote)

AODocs is a software company created in 2012 that makes a Content Services SaaS platform. It is included by Gartner (in its Magic Quadrant) and Forrester (in its Wave) as one of the top and most innovative players in the content services space, among a sea of very old non-cloud competitors like IBM Filenet and OpenText that are approaching end of life and thus setting us for a large growth opportunity. 


Our product is used by over 500 large organizations such as Google, Colgate, Essilor, NYT and WWF to control their sensitive documents and automate critical business processes. Our client’s main use cases are  case management, contract lifecycle, quality management, SOP management. We are specifically seeing a lot of traction in the legal vertical.


We are based in Paris, Atlanta, Milan and San Francisco. Our team is over 100 strong, composed of highly motivated and competent people. We believe that good ideas can come from anyone, regardless of their formal job role.


The position 


We are looking for a solid and experienced VP of Engineering to help us scale and strengthen our engineering team.

  • Our product is best-in-class in its category, customers love it. AODocs has proven its enterprise-grade execution and service capabilities with successful deployments at very large enterprise customers.
  • Our addressable market just got multiplied by 20 as AODocs - which was originally made for Google Workspace only - just became compatible with Microsoft Office in our last release in January 2022. Our market is global (60% NAM, 30% EMEA, 10% rest of the world) with clients in all industries.
  • Our team needs to scale up to reach these new horizons. We need to recruit more and to recruit the best. We want to increase our capacity to be agile and deliver faster at the required level of quality. 


Your impact will be highly felt inside and outside the company. You will help drive us in new directions, see things we haven’t seen before, consider things we’ve never considered before, and bring fresh perspective to our team. 


We have offices in Paris and Milan, however the role can be remotely-based anywhere in Europe.




  • You will integrate the “leadership quintet” composed of the CEO, CTO, CPO, VP Engineering and VP of Operations. Learn to work with them and be the “people’s person” of that group.
  • In that context, you will define, with them, the composition of the  engineering team. This includes the type of roles, the headcount, the general organization. By doing so, you will be a key actor for the scale up of our workforce, growing it from around 40 engineers today to 3 times that number within 3 to 4 years.
  • This growth ambition will require you to set tools and processes to always keep track of the team’s performances and productivity. Including ticketing, rituals, tooling. Our DevOps, SREs and Release Manager will be some of your partners.
  • Of course you will be a key actor in our recruitment effort. You will partner with our Talents and HR people to hunt and find the right people and to define and improve all of our onboarding and training processes.

  • You have a background in development. You understand Saas applications and the cloud. You have some form of knowledge in software architecture.
  • You know how to recruit the different profiles required to make a good product engineering team. This includes, but not only, developers, QAs, POs, Data Engineers, Data Scientists or SREs.
  • You already organized processes for large international teams and you had a key role in increasing their adoption. You are also cautious to consider the “local dynamics” and not brutalize them with a rough top-down approach.
  • You are focused on consistently improving the team’s capacities and efficiency. You know automation is a fundamental part in achieving that.
  • You know and understand that you can be wrong more often than not.
  • You’re organized. You’re experienced.
  • You’re great with numbers. You write very well, You are not bothered by questions. You know that keeping your team informed on your actions is the best way to succeed.
  • You’re a natural leader. You ask a lot of questions.


Your qualifications


  • Strong experience in a similar position, ideally in a fast-growing software company.
  • Completely bilingual in English and French.
  • You’ve put together and operated a B2B marketing automation stack before.
  • You excel and have a proven track record in at least two of those: recruiting an engineering team, scaling up a team to more than double its original size, working with remote teams, organizing an existing team and helping it improve its productivity.
